Hello all! This is my first ever attempt at blogging so... I guess we'll see where this leads. As some of you know I've recently embarked on a 3 month national tour of The Little Engine that Could. The title "On the road with Teddy Bear" may indicate which roll I am playing. None the less it is a children's show delivered to the country by Omaha Theater Company. Imagine the Wiggles meets Sesame Street Live. High energy and a lot of sweating make weight loss inevitable (Yes!).
Two vehicles, a mini van and a 22ft truck, took sail on Sun 1/24/10. We have been driving 10 hours a day for the past three days. This seemed daunting until we reached the Rockies! Miles of beautiful snow capped mountains. As my small tech director explained it seamed as if we had visited Hoth (Star Wars reference). As a company we thoroughly enjoyed the sights.
So, who am I traveling with? A wonderful crew of people fill these two automobiles. Having such a small cast will make for easy get to know yous. As well as me there are 5 others on the road with the tour. Our little Tech Director is the fabulous Johnathan Fries. To his chagrin I have a man crush on him. He is little like me and almost as adorable. I couldn't feel safer with any other tech director. Yeah Fries. Onto the cast... My roommate is Al Kroeten (aka the Toy Monkey). They couldn't have put two better people together. We both snore so loudly that we may cancel each other out. Between our beds are earplugs and sleep aid which are placed there before anything is unpacked. Al is a talented musician and a good friend. Anyone who saw Bernstein Bears save Christmas will know him as Papa Bear. Next we have Jeff Haffner who plays all five engines skillfully. As our company manager he gets the privilege of asking if we've all "gone potty". This is important because Al forgets to go a lot. Those are the boys of the tour. As for the women... Jenny Guy plays our clown. Blond and beautiful she always looks great as we drink Margaritas or any other alcohol that we can find. Much fun will be had whenever the two of us are along. We can't help it... it just does. Last but not least is Kirsten Almeida. A small powerhouse in every way. As mature as she can act her inner child brings out the best in all of us. The former two cast mates are tapping into my musical theater geek that has been laying low for a while. Heather... you would love them... I mean you will because we are coming to NYC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, after all of that I must say that we are finally in Cali today and will load into our first venue (Lancaster performing arts center). We have two shows tomorrow then to Glendora Ca. Hello LA!!!!! We will be hitting most of the country and I hope you enjoy following along with me. Thanks for reading.
